This interactive online guide for Brown students after an incident of sexual harm, includes up-to-date information on support, time-sensitive medical care, reporting an incident, and other needs. 

A note about confidential resources: Confidential resources cannot share your information without your expressed consent unless there is imminent danger to self or others or as otherwise required by law (e.g., mandatory reporting for sexual violence against minors).

24/7 confidential crisis support for Brown students (undergraduate, graduate, and medical) after an incident of sexual, relational, or gender-based harm.  The crisis counselor will provide support and connection to care to consider options for reporting, time-sensitive medical decisions, and immediate safety needs, as well as for accompaniment to the hospital, law enforcement offices, court, or other urgent appointments.

The SHARE (Sexual Harm Acute Response & Empowerment) Advocates in BWell Health Promotion are confidential resources for any Brown student (undergraduate, graduate, and medical) affected by experiences such as sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, domestic/dating violence, relational abuse, or stalking, that has taken place at any time in their lives. Advocacy-based counseling supports both acute, immediate needs as well as ongoing empowerment needs for a survivor or impacted community members (e.g., friends of a survivor), through individual appointment and support groups.*This is a survivor-centered resource for people who have experienced sexual harm.

CAPS offers a range of mental health treatment and prevention services for Brown students in an inclusive, compassionate, affirming and socially just environment. Clinicians provide confidential crisis services, individual counseling, group counseling, psychiatry, and TimelyCare Teletherapy service.  

Brown Emergency Medical Services (EMS), 401-863-4111
Emergency medical response available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  EMS can assess for urgent medical needs and transport students to the hospital for time-sensitive medical needs such as evidence collection and screening for predatory drugs.  They can also connect students to a confidential crisis counselor.

University Health Services, 401-863-3953
Confidential medical care, testing and treatment.  Providers can discuss time-sensitive medical needs and provide emergency contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. They can also connect students to a confidential crisis counselor.

The Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life, 401-863-2344
Ordained Chaplains are able to provide confidential support to students regardless of enrollment or location status. Chaplains can also support staff, faculty, alumni- anyone related to the Brown community.

The ‘me too.’ Movement supports survivors of sexual violence and their allies by connecting survivors to resources, offering community organizing resources, pursuing a ‘me too.’ policy platform, and working with researchers to add to the field. Heart to Grow
HEART Women & Girls seeks to promote the reproductive health and mental well-being of Muslim communities. HEART has developed culturally sensitive health information and programming, and the site has several articles on sexual health and sexual violence written for Muslim communities.

Futures Without Violence is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for laws to help battered women, educates judges and provides training and support to employers and health care providers.
