Meet the Team of BME Seniors Working to Change the Future of Drug Delivery Systems

Christopher (Chris) Shin, Paul Ogan, Tobias (Toby) Meng-Saccoccio, Albert Wu, Evrim Ozcan, and Venkatsai (Shri) Bellala are a team of seniors in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. They’ve known each other since freshman year. Now, in their BME Capstone, they are working together to alter the future of emergency drug delivery.

Blending Math, Physics, Systems biology, Pharmacometrics, and more: Nazanin Ahmadi on AI-Aristotle

When Nazanin (Naz) Ahmadi first came to Brown, she knew she would be working on Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) with her advisor—Dr. George Karniadakis, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Engineering.

She didn’t know she would be working in Quantitative Systems biology and Pharmacometrics—fields that require a background in chemistry and biology, subjects Naz hadn’t studied since her early high school years.

Brown BME Spotlight: Injy El-Dib ’24, Undergraduate Student

Injy El-Dib is a senior concentrating in Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-medical track and a member of the Shukla Lab.

A commuter student from Foxborough, Massachusetts, Injy is currently working on her Honors Thesis in BME. Injy’s research centers on developing an alternative to antibiotics since bacteria often become resistant to antibiotics over time. She works on conjugating antimicrobial peptides to the surface of gold nanoparticles as a potential alternative treatment for bacterial infections.

Cultivating Corporate Connections: BMEB Hosts Particles for Humanity for Roles in Biotech Panel

Last week, the Corporate Outreach Committee of Brown Biomedical Engineering Board (BMEB) sponsored a Roles in Biotech Panel with speakers from mission-oriented biotech start-up, Particles for Humanity (PFH). The event offered students an opportunity to network with career experts and learn about PFH’s innovative work supporting essential health developments in low and middle-income countries.

Desai named to National Academy of Engineering

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected Brown University Sorensen Family Dean of Engineering Tejal A. Desai to its newest membership class, honoring her distinguished contributions to engineering, “for nanofabricated materials to control biologics delivery, and leadership in the fields of nanotechnology and regenerative medicine.”  Membership in the NAE is considered one of the highest professional honors accorded an engineer and Desai’s selection brings to six the number of current Brown faculty members in the NAE.
