Engineering Students Participate in 2017 Summer Research Symposium

More than 200 undergraduates gathered in Sayles Hall on August 3 and 4 to present the results of their research at the annual Summer Research Symposium sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College. Over 30 of the posters were from undergraduate researchers from the School of Engineering or were conducted under the guidance of engineering faculty members. Many of the projects were supported by Brown’s Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards (UTRAs).

Eric Darling to Co-chair 2018 Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering (CMBE) Conference

It will be held at the beautiful Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, FL, from January 2–6, 2018 with the theme: Discovering the Keys: Transformative and Translational Mechanobiology.

August Alumni Spotlight - Liza Gibbs ‘16

"I'm extremely grateful for the breadth of experiences I was able to have while at Brown. The freedom to take courses in topics such as disability studies, biotechnology in global health, and humanity-centered robotics played a huge role in helping me to explore the many subfields and applications of BME alongside my engineering coursework. Additionally, a LINK award allowed me to spend a summer working directly in Prosthetics & Orthotics at Walter Reed, and mentorship from several professors was instrumental to my experience at Brown in general as well as within my job search in particular."

September Alumni Spotlight - Harry Samaroo '07

"As a research scientist, I work in a group to address different scientific questions in relation to a drug target.  This involves identifying the right experimental models, designing and running experiments, and finally analyzing and reporting the data.  A typical day would include doing hands-on work in the lab, documenting work in an electronic notebook, attending meetings and various administrative tasks.  The rewarding parts of the job are when we reach a project milestone and knowing that our efforts made a positive impact in advancing a drug program."
