Garrett Neske

In what capacity and when were you at Brown?
Graduate student, 2010-2015.

What do you do now? Provide a brief description of what you do for a living and what drives you professionally.
I am a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University, where I study circuit mechanisms of state-dependent sensory processing in the visual system.  I am fascinated by the flexibility of cortical circuits in guiding adaptive behaviors and understanding how this flexibility is impaired in neurological diseases.

How did your experience at Brown (in the lab, in the classroom, and in the Brown community) prepare you for what you do today?
The collaborative nature and collegial spirit of the neuroscience community at Brown helped me to appreciate and understand many aspects of this diverse field.  The thorough foundation I acquired as a graduate student at Brown has helped me to formulate my own research ideas as a postdoc and encouraged me to actively seek collaborations as part of my investigations.
