Pitching Your Research to the Public

Rockefeller Library
Academics are performers: when we teach, communicate with our colleagues, and write about our research, we are presenting a curated version of our work–and ourselves–in a way that we believe is digestible and useful for an academic audience. But what about a non-academic audience? In an age of funding woes, constant media consumption, and social media, effectively communicating why you do what you do, and who you are, is more essential now that ever before. In this workshop you will learn some tips and tricks for pitching your ideas and the value of your work to the public, and for cultivating your public image as an academic. We will also work through short talks to pitch participants’ research to the public.
