Rhythmic Resistance: A Workshop on Celebrating Asian Womxn and Building Community

Petteruti Lounge, Stephen Robert '62 Center
What does it mean to celebrate Asian womxnhood? How do we navigate our own identities and build community with Asian womxn on campus? Join Karen Young, community advocate, educator, and founder of the Genki Spark, for a workshop filled with rhythm, self-reflection, and space to discuss alongside other Asian womxn. Food will be provided!
Karen Young is the Founding Director of the multigenerational, pan-Asian women’s arts and advocacy group The Genki Spark. Based in Boston, Genki uses the art of taiko (Japanese drumming) and personal stories as a vehicle for social change. Traveling all over the country as well as internationally, Karen works with the taiko community and local grassroots community groups to empower immigrants, youth, and members of the LGBTQ community. She was also recently selected as one of seven artists in residence by the City of Boston. Through her own experiences, Karen inspires communities to reclaim voice, culture, personal empowerment, and a sense of belonging.
