Virtual Reality in the YURT (Part of the "3D for everyone" workshop series)

The CAVE, 180 George Street
One of the most compelling ideas that came out of the 1980s version of Star Trek was the "holodeck", an immersive space in which an otherwise banal room would be transformed into an alternate computer-constructed reality. That vision is remarkably close to reality with Brown's YURT and CAVE environments. Once viewers put on head-tracking glasses, the walls, ceiling, and floor melt away, leaving an environment that is entirely (and convincingly) computer-generated. This workshop, part of the "3D for Everyone" introductory workshop series ( http://brown.edu/go/3d ), will show off the one-of-a-kind YURT facility. We are hoping to bring some of the content generated in previous workshops for viewing in this amazing environment.
