On May 4, 2023, President Joseph Biden published Executive Order 14098 describing sanctions in Sudan in response to current military activity in the country. This EO does not sanction the entire country or specific entities. Instead, it lays out criteria and a framework for sanctioning entities in Sudan based on their activities.

Sudan is no longer comprehensively embargoed, but the regulations are very nuanced. Therefore, if you have any interest in planning collaboration with researchers in Sudan or traveling to Sudan, you must coordinate with the Export Control Office. In addition, review Brown’s general international travel guidance for further information about travel to high risk destinations.
