Professor Kimani Toussaint has been named Senior Associate Dean in the Brown University School of Engineering. The appointment begins August 1, and is for a three-year term. In Toussaint’s role as the Senior Associate Dean, he will work closely with the dean on all matters related to promoting the School of Engineering and its academic mission.

Three projects led by Brown University biomedical engineering led teams have each been awarded $100,000 to help translate their scientific discoveries into commercial products that benefit patients.

Assistant Professor Anita Shukla has been chosen as one of 85 of the nation’s brightest early-career engineers and will take part in the National Academy of Engineering’s (NAE) 26th annual U.S. Frontiers of Engineering (USFOE) symposium. Engineers who are performing exceptional research and technical work in a variety of disciplines will come together for the two-and-a-half day event next February.

Professor Anubhav Tripathi and graduate students Lindsay Schneider, Kiara Lee, and Dulguunnaran Naranbat are working with collaborators from the Division of Infectious Disease to assess the SARS-Cov-2 virus on a molecular level through its genome and ultimately help address the pandemic on personal and public health levels. Professor Gregory Jay is involved in a project to build a blood biorepository housed at the Lifespan Clinical Research Center.

The Excellence in Teaching Award acknowledges graduate students whose passion for teaching is recognized by their peers. Christina Bailey-Hytholt was awarded for her extraordinary devotion to teaching.
