The Contribution to Community Life Award is given by the Division of Campus Life on behalf of the Corporation Committee on Campus Life and recognizes a select group of graduating doctoral and master’s students who have contributed in a very significant way to the sense of community at Brown.

BME Student Takes Top Prize at RI Business Plan Comp

BME senior Abbie Kohler ’20 and EE senior Greg Boudreau-Fine ’20 were named winners of the MedTech track last week at the 2020 Rhode Island Business Competition. Winners were announced Wednesday, May 13 at a virtual awards ceremony. Kohler and Boudreau-Fine’s venture, ResusciTech, is a novel CPR feedback device that will give people the ability to perform CPR accurately in order to increase survival rates of victims of cardiac arrest.

Remembering founding AIMBE and inaugural BMES fellow Peter Richardson

Peter Damian Richardson, longtime Brown University faculty member, passed away April 21 at age 84. Richardson taught at Brown for 57 years until his retirement in 2015, ultimately becoming Professor Emeritus of Engineering and Physiology. Biomedical engineering at Brown started with Peter’s collaboration with Pierre Galletti, working on artificial organs, building devices, and creating models. Peter was a founding fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and an inaugural fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).

BME Master's Student Joshua Daniel '18 ScM'20 Will Continue Design Project in B-Lab 2020

Joshua Daniel '18 ScM'20 will take part in Breakthrough Lab (B-Lab), an intensive 8-week accelerator program designed to support student entrepreneurs developing high-impact ventures. Josh's venture, InStance, is developing sensors to optimize weight-bearing rehabilitative therapy and long-term assessment of therapy efficacy for patients afflicted with neuromuscular diseases.
