BME senior Eric DuBois '20 remotely accesses the 3D printers in the Engineering makerspace to aid in #GetPPE movement

Chris Bull, Brown Design Workshop director, has been using the facility’s 3D printers and other equipment to make much-needed personal protective equipment for local health care organizations. Bull has lined up assistance from students who can work in the shop remotely. Eric Dubois, a senior biomedical engineering concentrator, has been running 3D printers over the internet from his home in New Hampshire. 

Assistant Professor Vikas Srivastava's class studied the concept of “flattening the curve” before it became a household catchphrase

In ENGN 2911R: Analytical Modeling for Biomechanical and Biomedical Systems, Srivastava he introduces an educational portion on the modeling of infectious disease spread and dynamics. A unique subset of problems solved in class now feels forebodingly familiar to those engineering graduate students who studied the concept of “flattening the curve” before it became a household catchphrase.

BME postdoc Akram Abbasi earns Excellence in Doctoral Research Award from URI

Akram Abbasi's research on nanomaterials for different applications led to published articles in highly-rated professional journals and presentations at national meetings. Her outstanding work also earned her the 2020 Excellence in Doctoral Research Award from the URI Graduate School. Since August 2019, Abbasi has conducted postdoctoral research at Brown University in the Shukla Laboratory for Designer Biomaterials.
