Smith-Buonanno, Room G12
The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop is a multi-generational examination of life and poetry in the age of hip hop. The book features 78 poets, born somewhere between 1961-1999, All-City and Coast-to-Coast, and is the first poetry anthology by and for the Hip-Hop generation.
Poets Kevin Coval and Jamila Woods '11 will lead a writing workshop using The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop as source material. This workshop is open to students with any level of experience writing and reading poetry. Participants leave with first drafts of original poems, and prompts for future writing. Participants may be featured in an open mic during BreakBeat Poets' evening performance/reading.
