D’Ondre Swails earned his B.A. in philosophy and sociology at Morehouse College and his A.M. in Africana Studies at Brown University. His research interests are in African-American cultural politics and history; Black radical thought; and Black expressive cultures. He is currently working on his dissertation project, which is a study of criminalization and the political function of the “gangsta” figure.
