A retrospective on a year of impact, innovation and achievement at Brown, these 24 stories for 2024 highlight some of the University’s most memorable moments from the past 12 months.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — From academic accomplishments and moments of celebration to challenging campus conversations and even heartbreaking losses, calendar year 2024 at Brown University reflected the relentless stream of activity that makes Brown such a dynamic academic community.

Researchers at Brown made groundbreaking discoveries, academic leaders unveiled compelling new programs and instructors debuted novel innovations in teaching. Students competed in the Olympics, earned accolades for scholarly achievements and advocated on pressing issues across the globe and at home on campus. Staff members expanded partnerships beyond campus, designed major capital projects in Providence and launched initiatives to benefit local communities. And alumni returned to campus from as far away as the International Space Station to inspire the next generation of graduates to process out through the Van Wickle Gates.

As the calendar year comes to a close, here in reverse chronological order are 24 of Brown’s most noteworthy and well-read stories of 2024.
