This discussion presents an opportunity to learn more about his experiences as a black professor and theoretical physicist, and discuss challenges faced by underrepresented minorities in STEM fields.

Jim Gates is a Distinguished University Professor, University Regents Professor and John H. Toll Professor of Physics, University of Maryland as well as a National Medal of Science winner, President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology member, and PBS NOVA regular.
Later that evening, Prof. Gates will give a lecture titled, "What Guards Our Reality Against Oblivion? SUSY Might" as part of the Brown University Presidential Colloquium Series, Thinking Out Loud: Deciphering Mysteries of Our World and Beyond.
