Please join us on Tuesday, November 7, 12-1pm for a "What I Am Thinking About Now" presentation by CSREA Associate Director Stéphanie Larrieux, (Ph.D. American Studies, Brown ’08) entitled “The Future is Now: What Science Fiction Film Reveals About Ourselves.”

The talk will be based on her manuscript project, "The Future According to Hollywood: Race and Science Fiction Film," which uses science fiction cinema to examine the relationship between imagined representations of the future and historical interpretations of racial discourses and social relations in the United States. With an expressed focus on futuricity, the project examines cinematic texts that attempt to engage, reflect, or represent the ways in which American society deals with its diversity and pluralistic identity. The emphasis of the talk will be the new pathways of inquiry this already highly interdisciplinary project is now exploring.
