Classics concentrator Yvette Schein wins Fulbright to Norway

Classics concentrator Yvette Schein ('16), a co-editor of this year's forthcoming issue of the Brown Classical Journal, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Study/Research award to conduct research next year in Norway.

Yvette writes:

Next year, I will study social integration and access to healthcare for refugees in Norway with a Fulbright Grant. This research is an extension of my Senior Thesis here at Brown in which I examine health-related experiences for East African refugees in Rhode Island. The movement of refugees has been unprecedented over the past year and is likely to continue. This trend has made the health-related challenges facing refugees after resettlement increasingly important to understand and address. I will be working at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health measuring latent tuberculosis infection treatment compliance among refugee populations to promote my understanding of the barriers to successful integration of refugees. I hope to supplement this research with qualitative interviews with members of refugee communities and through coursework at the University of Oslo.

Many congratulations and all best wishes to Yvette, from the whole Department of Classics!
