Prof. Graham Oliver took part in a three-day conference titled ‘Beyond Mysteries: The Hybrid History of Ancient Eleusis’. Participants attend both by Zoom and in-person (in Münster). Approaches included the recent work on the site by the Greek Archaeological Society and Sylvian Fachard on the outlying areas leading into the Thriasian plain; mythological, religious, and socio-historical themes, in addition to political economy and military. Oliver presented a paper ‘”For the defense of Eleusis”: Soldiers, Military Operations, and Strategic Priorities in the Polis and Beyond.’ The papers will be published by Brill in their series on ‘Religions in the Graeco-Roman World’ with the book planned for release in 2023 when Eleusis will be the ‘European Capital of Culture.’

You can find more details about the conference on the news page of the Classical Studies @ hansbeck.org website.
