Retiree Health Insurance
Brown University worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and Doctor's Choice to offer eligible retirees the opportunity to enroll in one of two retiree health programs. Both programs include prescription drug coverage and are fully retiree-paid. This benefit is available to all retired faculty and staff ages 65 and above and spouses and/or partners also ages 65 and above. For additional information, refer to the Benefits Information Guide, Appendix 2.
BCBSRI offers eligible Brown retirees BlueCHiP for Medicare Group Preferred, a comprehensive, coordinated care plan for retirees eligible for Medicare Parts A and B. This plan, designed for retirees whose legal residence is in Rhode Island, provides an extensive statewide network of providers and all of the same benefits as original Medicare, along with coverage for annual physicals, eyeglasses, dental services, hearing aids and fitness memberships. Please note that individual BlueCHiP for Medicare plans are also available through BCBSRI. For questions and additional information, please contact a Customer Service Specialist at 1-800-505-2583.
