Health and Wellbeing

Health Plans

Eligible employees of Brown University have a choice between two health insurance carriers.  Both Blue Cross/Blue Shield and UnitedHealth offer a Comprehesive Plan (PPO); UnitedHealthcare also offers a High Deductible Plan (CDHP) with a health savings account (HSA).

Dental Plans

Brown University offers dental insurance to eligible employees through Delta Dental of Rhode Island. After a three month waiting period, employees may choose between two plan options.

Vision Plan

Vision coverage is offered through VSP's Choice Plan. VSP offers a network of providers and discounts at high-quality retail chains. 

Prescription Drug Coverage

Optum Rx is Brown University's pharmacy benefit provider.  Employees are automatically enrolled in prescription coverage once they enroll in one of Brown's health plans. 

Healthcare Flexible Spending Account

A Healthcare Flexbile Spending Account (FSA) allows eligible employees, who are not currently contributing to an HSA account, to set aside pre-tax dollars through a payroll deduction to be used for eligible health and/or dental expenses.

Life Insurance and AD&D

Brown University provides eligible employees with employer paid basic life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance plans.  Eligible employees may enroll in additional insurance for their spouse, child, or themselves through payroll deduction. Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance

Brown University provides eligible employees with an employer paid long-term disability insurance plan.

Wellness at Brown

Wellness at Brown, the University's employee wellbeing program, offers employees on-site programs, online tools, and incentives to encourage healthy lifestyles.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Counseling, coaching, and support services are administered by Spring Health, Brown's Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Telemedicine

Employees and dependents covered under one of Brown's health insurance plans have access to board-certified physicians through phone and/or video consultations.
