Classics Professor Stratis Papaioannou Awarded 2018 Guggenheim Fellowship

Classics Professor Stratis Papaioannou has been awarded a 2018 Guggenheim fellowship.  According to the website of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Prof. project is "a narrative History of Byzantine Literature (330 CE-1453 CE)." Professor Papaiannou is an Associate Professor of Classics and is also the Director of Brown's Medieval Studies Program.  

Classics Alumna Presents Novel at Brown Bookstore

Classics Alumna Madeline Miller, '00, will be at the Brown Bookstore on Thursday, April 26th to present her new book, Circe.  This is the highly anticipated follow-up to her New York Times bestseller The Song of Achilles.  You can find more information about the event on Brown Bookstore's website and additional information about the book on the publisher's website.

Prof. Jeri DeBrohun, Chair of Classics, wins the Barlow-Beach Award for Distinguished Service

On Friday, March 9, 2018, Jeri DeBrohun, Chair of the Department of Classics, was honored at the annual meeting of the Classical Association of New England (CANE) by being awarded the Barlow-Beach Award, CANE’s highest honor bestowed on a member of the association.

2018 Classics Language Prize Exams

The Department of Classics will offer four Language Prize Exams in the month of April. Several financial prizes will be awarded for each exam. Eligibility to sit for each exam varies, so please read the details carefully.
