Dr. Murphy Successfully Defends

Michael Warren Murphy has successfully defended his dissertation, "Rhode Island and the Plantation Problem: An Inquiry into the Origins and Legacies of Racialized Socioecological Relations" which examines the structural entanglements of race and environment in New England’s past and present.

Dr. Liu Successfully Defends

Dr. Myungji Yang ('12) Publishes Book

Myungji Yang, Ph.D. graduate from Brown Sociology in 2012, has published a book entitled From Miracle to Mirage: The Making and Unmaking of the Korean Middle Class, 1960-2015. This book, published by Cornell University Press, is a critical account of the trajectory of state-sponsored middle-class formation in Korea in the second half of the twentieth century. Yang’s book offers a compelling story of the reality behind the myth of middle-class formation.

Benjamin Bradlow Awarded by NSF, BSA

Benjamin Bradlow, PhD Candidate for Sociology, has been approved for the NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement award in 2018. This award aims to fund doctoral dissertation research and defray direct costs associated with conducting research.
