Garden Cleanup and Flower Planting With What Cheer Flower Farm
Help out at What Cheer Flower Farm, a nonprofit organization that grows and gives away flowers to a network of local organizations, such as hospitals, recovery centers and food pantries. As a volunteer, you'll plant seeds, clean up gardens and build floral bouquets to bring cheer to nursing homes, senior centers and more. Training will be provided. Wear comfortable, layered clothing and sneakers or work boots and bring your own water bottle and personal care items. Waivers are required. Parking is available on site.

Pack Boxes for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
Support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank with box packing projects for families and people in need. Participants will be standing and moving throughout the shift, and should be prepared to occasionally lift boxes up to 35 pounds and have a strong attention to detail. Waivers are required. Parking is available on site.

Support Veterans and Their Families by Volunteering at Dare to Dream Ranch
Dare to Dream Ranch, located in Foster, RI, provides alternative therapy programs for U.S. military service members, veterans and their families struggling with emotional challenges like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, military sexual trauma (MST), and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). Services include equine therapy, horticultural therapy, yoga, fly tying and fishing, nutritional cooking, woodworking, career coaching and group therapy to assist those impacted.
Projects for volunteers and teams at Dare to Dream Ranch include conducting outdoor and trail clean ups, preparing and maintaining vegetable and flower gardens, continuing to build a stone wall, preparing a memorial walkway and other needed tasks.

A cyanotype (also called a sun print) is one of the oldest photographic processes. During this workshop, participants will create compositions out of natural and household objects, lay them on top of chemically treated paper, and expose them to UV light to develop a piece of art you can take home. The resulting image is a deep blue print with white silhouettes of your objects.

In the Wake of George Floyd
In May 2020, at the height of the pandemic, millions of Americans took to the streets to protest the public killing of George Floyd by the police. While Floyd’s killing sparked monthslong protests, these demonstrations called into question a longer history of police and other extra-judicial killings of Black people and other people of color, seemingly without accountability. Brown University responded in a variety of ways, including support for projects addressing systemic racism. “In the Wake of George Floyd” is the response of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) to these events. Presented in partnership with the Brown University Library's Center for Digital Scholarship, the project creates an archive of Rhode Island’s responses to the events and broader experiences of anti-Black racism and police violence.
