There are many types of meditation resulting in different effects on our mind and body. Over a period of three weeks, join Priscilla Szneke who will use a particular framework as a guide to understanding these different types of meditation. During each session, review a different category and explore an exemplar of that category. Each session will include a short lecture, practice and discussion. The instructor has asked that participants leave their camera on during the lecture and discussion portion of the session. Register for one, two, or all three dates. Wednesday, February 24 - Body Weight Strength

Body weight strength is the perfect class to build or maintain strength. This versatile class can be done from anywhere, because all you need is you! When you participate, you can expect exercises like push ups, squats, and planks, all adjustable to any fitness level. Let’s face it, some of us cringe when thinking about eating healthy. In this class, we will learn what makes foods generally healthy or unhealthy, and how to steer ourselves and our family towards healthier eating. Join Jennifer Zartarian to discuss how to “sneak in” more fruits, good fats, veggies, and whole grains and reduce salt, saturated fat, and sugar. Learning to adapt is more timely than ever. And while adapting to change can sometimes feel daunting, it is possible to navigate change successfully with a bit of support and a little careful planning. Join Talent Development Specialist and experienced facilitator David Ethier for a virtual session of Navigating Change and Transition as he shares tips for understanding the nature of change and shows participants some methods and tools to successfully navigate the transition process, with a focus on key strategies for self-management and self-motivation. Monday, February 8 – A Conversation and Q&A with Dan Barry

6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Dan Barry, a senior writer at The New York Times, shared a 1994 Pulitzer Prize as a member of an investigative team at the Providence Journal, and since then has twice been a nominated Pulitzer finalist for feature writing. His other honors include a George Polk Award, two American Society of Newspaper Editors Awards, the Mike Berger Award from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and a Best American Newspaper Narrative Award. Barry is the author of Pull Me Up: A Memoir; City Lights, a collection of his “About New York” columns; Bottom of the 33rd: Hope, Redemption, and Baseball’s Longest Game, which won the 2012 PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sportswriting; and This Land: America, Lost and Found, a collection of his national columns. Among the most interesting and effective organizations during the presidential campaign and since has been a group of former Republicans calling themselves the Lincoln Project. The Lincoln Project was responsible for some of the most provocative and devastating campaign ads against President Donald Trump. During the 2020 election, the Lincoln Project reportedly spent $67 million in opposition to Trump and “Trumpism.” Among its most prominent and important participants is Mike Murphy. Friday, February 12 - Staff First Readings Discussion - “Report of the Brown University Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice”

Every year, the University chooses a reading for incoming first-year students as a way to engage with students on important topics and to create opportunities for dialogue. In collaboration with the Provost’s Office, the President’s Staff Advisory Council also offers this reading to staff who may be interested, along with faculty-led discussion groups. This year’s reading, the “Report of the Brown University Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice,” is a timely selection given the persistent issues facing the nation around issues of race and the University focus on addressing anti-Black racism.
