PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] – PSTC Associate and Professor of Epidemiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology David Savitz has been named one of this year’s honorees for outstanding service by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). NAM awarded Savitz the David Rall Medal in recognition of his distinguished leadership on the Board on the Health of Select Populations, along with his service to over a dozen committees, five of which he chaired.

Savitz’s research focuses on public health consequences of behaviors and circumstances such as tobacco and drug use, pregnancy complications, and psychosocial stress. He has served on NAM committees that have addressed issues including contaminated drinking water and the public health ramifications of e-cigarettes. As chair of the Committee on Contaminated Drinking Water at Camp Lejeune, Savitz helped generate a report that informed legislation passed by President Obama. Savitz’s service has helped NAM serve the nation and the international community through domestic and global health, medicine, and policy initiatives.
