The PSTC is now accepting applications from graduate students for summer 2024 research awards. Summer research support nurtures research projects consistent with the PSTC’s mission to promote innovative and high-quality population science.
This year, the PSTC offers summer research awards in two categories:
1. Mellon Award for Anthropological Demography
Mellon Awards support fieldwork research relevant to anthropological demography. The award amount is generally in the range of $2,500 to $5,000.
2. Summer Award to Promote Population Research Projects
Funds are available to support progress on research projects or papers, including research travel, data acquisition, data collection, or skill training. The award amount is generally in the range of $500 to $1,200. Research that falls into one of the PSTC’s primary research areas, or that advances funded research conducted through the PSTC, is given priority.
Please follow the application instructions below:
1) Complete all questions within the PSTC application form HERE.
2) Submit a brief proposal (1,000 words maximum). The proposal should describe: (1) your engagement with the PSTC training program (how you have met or plan to meet trainee course requirements; your engagement with PSTC events and activities; and the relevance of your research to PSTC themes); (2) how your project will further your population-related research and training, the proposed outcome (PAA or other conference submission, grant proposal, a paper submitted for publication, timeline of expected outcome); and (3) an itemized budget. Please also list other sources/amounts of funding you have requested for this project and outcomes (approved, denied, pending). Please upload the document at the end of the application form.
3) Inform your PSTC faculty mentor(s) that they should email Meaghen Hanrahan with a brief statement of support. The deadline for the application and statement of support is Friday, May 3, 2024.
Applications will be reviewed by the PSTC Associate Director, with consultation requested from the PSTC Training Committee or faculty associates in cases in which the Associate Director is unable to judge the merit of the proposal.
