The PSTC welcomes proposals to advance Brown’s research and distinctive reputation in anthropological demography. Proposals are expected to support the development of new ideas and directions, or promote ongoing strengths, in anthropological demography. Activities might include conferences, seed research funds, the hosting of anthropology postdocs or other scholars at PSTC, and general programming relevant to anthropological demography. Collaborative research between anthropologists and other population scholars is encouraged.
PSTC graduate students, postdocs, staff, and faculty are eligible to apply for Mellon Anthropological Demography Awards. Examples include: PSTC graduate students, postdocs, or faculty requesting funds for a new research project that includes significant qualitative fieldwork, employs the methods or theories used in anthropology, or otherwise contributes to anthropological demography; anthropology faculty requesting to hire demography postdocs or graduate students; faculty in other disciplines requesting to hire anthropology postdocs, graduate students, or undergraduates. Faculty salary and graduate student tuition are generally not supported. While all PSTC graduate students are eligible to apply, graduate students who complete graduate coursework in anthropological demography will receive priority. Requests should include a 1-2-page proposal, a proposed budget, and CV(s). Additional materials will be requested if necessary to evaluate large or unusual requests. Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. Please upload your proposal here as a single pdf.
