How do societies generate and spread valuable information? How does information reach poor and remote populations? Björkegren uses billions of transaction records to trace the spread of a valuable piece of information through a network of hundreds of thousands of mobile phones owners in Rwanda—the entire population who might benefit from it.

The spread of technology across the developing world has generated massive amounts of high frequency data. Björkegren uses this data to understand and improve the lives of the poor. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard. He was a W. Glenn Campbell and Rita Ricardo-Campbell National Fellow at Stanford University last year and is the co-founder of Precision Agriculture for Development.
