Acquired by Brown in 1966, and dedicated in the fall of 1967, the Hunter S. Marston Boathouse serves as the home for Brown University's men's and women's crew teams and their coaches. The Boathouse is located near India Point Park in Providence and is adjacent to the Seekonk River. The facility houses administrative offices, locker rooms, boat storage and workshop, as well as training facilities (including a tank room). As the men's and women's crew headquarters, the Boathouse serves as the site of daily practices, as well as competitions and races with visiting crew teams.

The Boathouse was last updated in 1994, and as such, is in need of an overall update to provide improved facilities for Brown's crew team.  The first phase of improvements, completed in fall 2018, included a new bulkhead, boat ramps, dock enhancements and floats.  The second phase of this renewal program consisted of structural stabilization, life safety upgrades, mechanical, electrical and plumbing system upgrades, as well as program realignments in the team locker rooms and tank room, and cosmetic enhancements throughout the building. This program is in alignment with Brown's strategic plan Building on Distinction:  A New Plan for Brown (2013), and was completed in April 2021
