Faculty Requests for Data Science Fellows

Faculty wishing to request a Data Science Fellows are asked to complete the request form.

Faculty Nominating Students to Become Data Science Fellows

Any faculty member wishing to nominate a student to become a Data Science Fellow can complete the nomination form.  Nominated students will be required to complete the student application form prior to course registration.

Data Science Course Design Institute

To enhance and develop faculty capacity to integrate data science concepts into their courses, Sheridan offers a one-day Data Science Course Development Institute in January. This program brings together faculty and graduate students to reflect on a deeper understanding of data science processes and skills, developing an interdisciplinary perspective on teaching data science, and learning more strategies to use data science in the classroom.

Expectations for Faculty

Faculty participants will be required to meet (for no more than one hour) with Sheridan staff before the institute to discuss their focus for the institute. Faculty will attend the institute in January, bringing a course syllabus to the institute.

During the spring semester, faculty participants will attend a luncheon, sponsored by the Sheridan Center, to share and discuss the implementation of the course design institute work in their classes.

Benefits for Faculty

There are three main outcomes for faculty participating in the Data Science Course Design Institute:

  1. Increased understanding of the tools, skills, and discipline of data science to broaden the possibility of data science course resources
  2. Integration of data science learning outcomes into their undergraduate course to promote a seamless integration of data science course content
  3. Development of teaching strategies to meet data science-related learning outcomes to ensure consistency between the outcomes and course content

In addition to the institute outcomes, faculty participating in the institute will have priority access for an undergraduate Data Science Fellow in Spring.  DATA 1150, Data Science Fellows Course for undergraduates is the student complement to the course design institute.Upon successful completion of the Institute, faculty participants also will receive a $750 grant to use for course development.

Registering for the Course Design Institute

Interested faculty should complete the Data Science Fellows Initiative interest form no later than November 1.
