Controversial discussions -- planned and unanticipated -- raise a number of challenging dynamics in the classroom. This session spotlights Brown faculty and their approaches to controversial discussions, with opportunities for participants to engage in some strategies and apply to critical incidents. This session will be co-facilitated by Matt Guterl (Africana Studies and American Studies), Björn Sandstede (Applied Math), Victoria Smith (Hispanic Studies), and Mary Wright (Sheridan). This workshop is open to junior faculty, lecturers and postdoctoral scholars.
