Ways of Looking III: Teaching Writing through Art

Sheridan Center for Teaching & Learning

How can art and design inspire writing in the classroom? How can the visual elicit analogies to the elements of poetry and prose? How can art and design arouse empathy and imagination? Investigate how objects in the RISD Museum can be used to stimulate writing - especially creative. Participants look closely at an object with museum educator Jackie Delamatre (Brown '02), adjunct assistant professor in Public Humanities at Brown, and reflect on how similar strategies can be applied in their courses.
