Designing and Assessing Reflection Assignments

Sheridan Center for Teaching & Learning

Reflection is a critical component of engaged learning, but what are effective ways to build this into a course? This interactive workshop will offer tools and faculty perspectives on designing and assessing reflective assignments. The workshop will be co-facilitated by Dr. Hedy Wald, Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, who will discuss her research-based rubric for formative assessment of students' reflective writing, and Sarah dAngelo, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, who will highlight her performance-based approaches to cultivating reflection. Resources to support this work, such as the Engaged Scholars Program Curriculum Development Grant, will also be featured. This workshop series - a collaboration between the Swearer Center for Public Service and the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning - spotlights resources and pedagogical tools for developing engaged learning experiences at Brown. Please register: https://sheridan-center.appshosting.com/pma/apex/f?p=210:76:0::NO::P76_EVENT_ID:387
